Quick Newborn Beanie

cat baby hat

Being able to quickly knit up a newborn baby hat is always useful!  Here are some reasons why you might want to knit a quick newborn beanie:

  • You’re having a baby. Yay!  And congratulations!
  • You know someone having a baby. Yay for you! You can have all the fun and enjoy the cuteness without having to deal with the spit up and the poop-y explosions.
  • You’re bored and need something to knit, and want to make some newborn hats to donate (to a hospital, or local charity).
  • You want to have a baby and need somewhere to put your “I can’t believe another month has just passed and I’m still not pregnant” angst.  (No judgements here.)

Well, whatever the reason, you’ve found the Lace and Yarn blog and are trying to figure out why you’re still reading this and where the heck is the pattern already, lady?  This pattern is quick and easy, and appropriate for any skill level knitter, even down to a beginner (if you know how to work projects in the round).  If not, get yourself some circular needles, hop on over to YouTube, and learn!

The Pattern

(**Please note: The photo above is the following beanie pattern with ears and a bow added.  The below pattern is ONLY the beanie.  The pattern for the ears and bow can be found here.)

Notes

Lots of things can be done to this pattern to add to it and make it more personal:  stripes, or really any type of color work, do just the ribbing in another color, add felt accents (flowers, a face, anything!), or you can do what I did, and add some ears, make it a critter (or cat) hat and if for a girl, add a cute little bow!  Click here (or the picture) to see my ear and bow pattern.
