Whale Softie Tutorial by Craftiness is Not Optional

Softies are such a great DIY baby gift, and so simple!  I have a sewing machine, but honestly, it’s been so long since I’ve used it, and I need a complete refresher course.  I used the tutorial by Craftiness is Not Optional to make a whale like the ones below, but I could not figure out my sewing machine, so I did it all by hand.  It took about five times longer than it needed to, but the end result is pretty good!  In other words, whether you’re a sewing expert or novice (like me), you can make this cute whale!  You can see the full tutorial here or by clicking on the photo.

I made the whale softie for my nephew.  I chose to not use her pattern and to make it slightly more “my own” and drew my own pattern.  I made the whale solely of felt (just the simple felt squares you find at a craft store).  Here’s my result:

I did one side grey and the other light blue.

Such an easy DIY nautical gift.  Give it a try!
