My sweet baby girl turned 1!  Well, it’s almost been 6 months already, but it was a great party!  We celebrated Miss Louise in style with a pink and gold twinkle twinkle little star party.  Today I’m sharing photos and dishing on the details.

Let’s start with the invitations.

I simple LOVE designing invitations for my kids parties!  This photo was from when I was trying to get shots of her and her brother for our Christmas card photo, but I love how she was looking to the side and it made her look like she was looking at the wording.  And I made this invitation completely in PicMonkey*!

I love getting my invitation printed from Ink Garden.  You can get 50% Off Birthday Invites* from Ink Garden – use code BDAY50 at check out.

The desserts and decor!  My daughter’s birthday is in January, and this was the BEST time to buy pink and gold star items!  I bought a lot of gold star items that were on clearance after Christmas/New Year’s (the vertical garland stripes against the windows, the paper I used to make the stars on the smash cake, and much more!) and everything was already out for Valentine’s day, so I had my pick of pink stuff!

Everyone loves cake- I mean, really, what else do you go to a kids birthday party for but the cake- so let’s start there!  For my sweet baby girl, I made her smash cake in two 4-inch cake rounds* with a strawberry box cake mix I got at a discount store (which I didn’t love, and can’t say I recommend, but it was pink!).  The icing was Wilton prepackaged, which I thought meant would be super easy to use.  As you can tell, my rosettes didn’t always turning out to look like rosettes.  I, sadly, didn’t love the icing, mainly for the package design, so am not endorsing it, but will say I wish I had just mixed my own batch up.  With that said, I still loved the way the cake turned out, and think it was freakin adorable!

I made the star toppers for the cake from gold star scrapbook paper that I got after Christmas sale from a craft store (amazon has some great options!*) and toothpicks.  Simple, easy, design with big effect!

I made cute labels for all of the food items at the party.

Cute, right?

Okay, so let’s get back to the desserts.  For a twinkle twinkle little star party, I think the only cake option is a star cake!

I’ll admit, not my best work (have you seen my Thomas cake! Of legend…), but it did the trick.  Well, part of it.  I only did a single layer cake with a star cake pan* and this size cake was just not going to cut it for the crowd I expected.  So, I also made two dozen cupcakes.

But first, I have to take a gush break.  I am a little obsessed with the Wilton gold edible glitter*.  So cute, right?  This cake needed some help, and the glitter was just the thing.  The little bottle it comes in for the price seems crazy at first, but trust me, it goes a long way!  I knocked over the little bottle while decorating and literally lost at least half of it on the floor, and still had plenty for both the cake and the cupcakes!   Look how much it dresses up the cupcakes!

Those cupcakes would’ve been pretty boring without the cute glitter!  Okay, gush over.  And that’s all for desserts.  Let’s move onto some adorable photos of Louise eating her cake.

How cute is her party hat?  It was so easy to make!  I glued a sticker foam sheet* onto a pink party hat*, added ribbon to keep it on, a felt “1”, and a pink yarn pom at the top.  Adorable!

It took her a while to break through the icing and really get into it…

But once she did, she loved it!  And that’s a sign of a successful smash cake!

Now onto more fun stuff.  If you’re like me, you took time every month of your baby’s first year to do a photo shoot (maybe you weren’t as crazy obsessed as I was and just took a photo or two) to capture your baby growing month by month and used stickers like these (seen below) from someone like Lucy Darling (I simply love all of these!).  Well, the first birthday party is the best time to display these photos and let your guests see how your baby grew her first year!  I hung mine with clothespins on this cute tassel garland*.

We had quite a few children attend the party, and with that comes party favors!

Although not a great photo, here was the favor set up.

The little bags on the left were the favors for each child.  I made the star wands (I told the boys they were shooting stars).  On the right you can see the noise makers and blowers for the kids.

Each bag had one of these toy stars*, some star stickers*, and a pink lollipop*.

I searched for cheaply priced, but not super cheaply made star wands (shooting stars), and I never really found what I wanted, so I made my own.

I used tongue depressors (craft sticks*), ribbon, die cut stars, and sticker foam sheets*.  Not a hard project, but probably took me an hour or two to make just under 20 of them.

Because we had a significant amount of older kids, I also had an activity for the them to do.  I set up a make your own party hat station on the dining room table.  This activity is so easy and the kids loved it!  I set out party hats* and crowns*, and star stickers*.  It was a hit!
